Joining a workspace someone else set up

When you join a Brev workspace someone else set up, your first session with Brev starts from what is already there: the goals assigned to you, your teams' goals and your role.

Last updated Oct 30, 2026

You go through the same setup steps as everyone else. When your first session with Brev opens, Brev already knows how you joined, which teams you are on, and which goals are already assigned to you, so it does not ask you to set up the workspace from scratch.

How the session opens #

  • Goals are already set up for you: Brev says how many and offers Review my goals with me, Add more goals of my own, Show me my team's goals, or Looks good, take me to my goals, which opens your goals.
  • None are yours yet: Brev says how many goals your organization already has and offers Show me what my team is working on, Help me add my own goals, I have a doc with my goals, or Just show me around first.

What Brev does in your first session #

  • Goals are already assigned to you: Brev shows them and asks you to confirm each one and its key result. It changes what you correct and writes nothing new unless you ask.
  • Your team has goals but you have none yet: Brev shows your team's goals and asks what you own under them, then writes your goals beneath the team goal they serve.
  • Nothing is assigned to you or your teams: Brev asks what you are on the hook for and writes your first goals.
  • Your role can view but not create goals: Brev tells you so and shows the goals that matter to you.

If your workspace already has company goals, Brev does not write another set, even for an owner or admin, unless you ask for a company goal by name. Which goals each role can create is in Roles and permissions.

PreviousGetting started in TeamsUse Brev in Microsoft Teams: your admin adds the Brev app, you connect your Teams coworker from your settings, and Brev messages you in a 1:1 chat.
NextAdd Brev Coworker (onboarding)Onboarding includes an optional step, right after the calendar step, where you add Brev to Slack or Microsoft Teams so it can work alongside your team where you already talk.
