Accepting an invitation

What happens when you open an invitation to join a Brev workspace, how to join or decline from inside Brev, and what to do if it doesn't work.

core

When someone invites you to their Brev workspace, you get an email. Most invitation emails carry a one-time invitation link; some also tell you why you're being added (the goal you now belong to, or the meeting whose action items will be waiting for you) and link to the Brev sign-in page instead. Either way, the invitation is tied to the email address it was sent to, so sign in with that address. If you don't have a Brev account yet, you'll be guided through onboarding first.

  • If you've never belonged to a workspace and this is your only invitation, signing in with the invited address joins you automatically.
  • If several workspaces have invited you, or you've been in a workspace before, Brev shows you every invitation right after you sign in, before any setup, and you pick one. Nothing is created for you until you choose.
  • If you already belong to a workspace, signing in never moves you. Brev shows the invitation when you open the app instead, and you decide there: see Accepting or declining inside Brev.

This page is for accepting an invitation you received. To see the invites your team has sent out (or to resend them), go to Members.

What happens step-by-step #

  1. 1
    Open the invitation link
If you're signed out, Brev opens the sign-in page with the invitation attached. Sign in with the address the invitation was sent to: the emailed code, Google, Microsoft, or your company's SSO all work.
  2. 2
If you're already signed in, Brev checks the email
If you're signed in with a different address than the one invited, Brev signs you out. Open the invitation link again and sign in with the invited address.
  3. 3
    You join, or you choose
If this is your first workspace and your only invitation, you join with the role the inviter picked and continue to onboarding. If you already have a workspace, Brev takes you to your invitations with this one highlighted, and you choose Join there (you stay a member of the workspaces you're in) or Decline. Opening the link again after you've joined takes you straight into that workspace. If that workspace requires its own sign-in (SSO or two-factor), Brev sends you there first. If joining from the link fails for any other reason, Brev takes you to your invitations instead, where it's still waiting if you haven't joined yet.
  4. 4
    If the link doesn't work
An invitation that has expired (they last 7 days) or that the inviter withdrew can't be accepted. If you're signed in, Brev signs you out to the sign-in page; if you're signed out, signing in won't add you to that workspace. Ask the inviter to send a fresh invitation. See If sign-in doesn't work for the messages involved.
Got an invitation meant for someone else?
An invitation link only works for the email address it was sent to, so nobody else can use it to join. If it reached you by mistake, ignore it.

Accepting or declining inside Brev #

If a workspace has invited you and you haven't answered yet, Brev shows the invitation in a dialog when you open the app, with Join and Decline for each one. Joining one workspace keeps your other invitations open. With several invitations, the dialog reads "You've been invited to 2 workspaces" (or however many) and lists them all.

  • Join adds the workspace and takes you into it, or to onboarding if you don't belong to a workspace yet. If you already belong to a workspace, it asks you to confirm first. You stay a member of the workspaces you were in, and your other invitations stay open.
  • Decline also asks you to confirm, then removes the invitation. To join later, someone there has to invite you again.
  • Not now closes the dialog. A banner at the top of Brev keeps the invitation in view, with Accept (and Decline, when there is only one invitation); it stays until you answer. Accept on a single invitation asks you to confirm before taking you into that workspace. If you have several invitations, the banner's Accept opens the list of all of them so you can pick which to join; the others stay open.
  • After Not now, the dialog comes back after about 12 hours on that browser, or sooner if another invitation arrives.
  • The dialog and banner don't appear in Settings, the Operator, these docs, or the pages that authorize the CLI or an MCP client. Open Goals to answer.

If you're looking for pending invites #

The list of invites your org has sent that haven't been accepted is on Members, on the Pending invitation tab. Admins and owners also see a Send N invites button there that re-sends every pending invitation at once.

If you belong to more than one organization #

Accepting an invitation adds that workspace and takes you into it; you stay an active member of the workspaces you were in. Brev always shows you one organization at a time, called your active organization, and everything you see (goals, views, teammates, meetings) belongs to it. Your role and the rest of your permissions are set per organization, so what you can do may differ between them.

Your organization's name sits at the top of the left sidebar. When you're an active member of more than one organization, it becomes a menu: click the name, pick another organization under Organizations, and Brev reloads into that workspace. You can also open your account menu (your picture at the bottom of the sidebar, or at the top right on a phone) and choose Switch organization, which works even when the sidebar is collapsed. You can switch to any organization where you're active. One you left earlier (accepting an invitation used to make your old workspace inactive) stays inactive until an admin there reactivates you.

A switch lasts: reloading, opening a new tab and signing in again all keep you in the organization you picked. When you sign in, Brev opens the organization you used last. If the organization you switch to requires single sign-on (SSO) or multi-factor authentication, Brev sends you to its sign-in first.

Meetings are captured in one of your organizations at a time, whether through your calendar, Granola or Notion. While one organization captures, connecting a calendar in another is refused, and Granola or Notion connected there start with capture paused, until you disconnect your calendar or pause capture in the first. Joining or rejoining an organization while another one captures pauses the calendar, Granola and Notion you still have connected there; resume them from AI Meeting Agent settings once the other organization stops capturing. A Notion workspace whose plan doesn't include AI meeting notes captures nothing, so it never blocks another organization. If you switch organizations while you're connecting an integration, that connection is refused; switch back and connect again.

PreviousAdd Brev Coworker (onboarding)Onboarding includes an optional step, right after the calendar step, where you add Brev to Slack or Microsoft Teams so it can work alongside your team where you already talk.
