Views (sidebar)
Saved goal-list configurations: Organization and the Views list in the sidebar's Goals section (All Goals, At Risk, Behind, shared and your own views), plus filters, KPIs and Present Mode.
/views in your browser, Brev takes you there. Every other saved view lives at its own URL under /views/<view-name>.A view is a saved set of filters on top of all your organization's goals. Views live in the sidebar's Goals section: Organization, My Goals and Check In at the top, then a Views list with the built-in views, views shared with you, and your own. Each team also has its own view, opened from the sidebar's Teams section (see Team view).
The Goals group #
- Organization
- Your organization's company-level goals for the current period, with the team and individual goals aligned under them. Goals owned only by a team or a person do not appear at the top level here; use All Goals or the team's view for those. Lives at
/views/company-goals/. - My Goals
- Opens your own profile page, with the goals you own.
- Check In
- Opens My check-ins.
The Views list #
- Built-in and org-wide views: every organization starts with All Goals (every goal you can see), At Risk and Behind. Org-wide views that admins save appear in the same list, for everyone.
- Shared with me: private views someone else shared with you. You can open them but not change them.
- My Views: the custom views you saved yourself.
Any view you pin floats to the top of the list. Pinning and the order of the list are personal (see Reorder, pin, rename & delete). Organization, the built-in views and team views always open on your organization's current period.
What a view looks like on screen #
- Title and details: the view's name (your organization's name on Organization, the team's name on a team view), with a details line under it such as 'Organization · Owner: <owner> · 12 members · Q4 2026'. The built-in All Goals, At Risk and Behind views show no details line.
- Header buttons: Add new on every view; Summary and Customize on Organization and team views; the Present Mode button; and, on a view you can manage, Share and a trash icon to delete it. In a narrow window everything except Add new moves into a View actions menu. To book time with the Brev team, use Help & support at the bottom of the left sidebar.
- Digest: collapsible status rollup with pill counts per status. Hidden until you turn it on under Customize.
- KPIs: metric cards for the view, hidden until you turn them on under Customize (see KPI cards).
- Goals: the main list, shown by default. Its header holds the filter chips, the filter toggle, Layout, and Reset all / Save when you have unsaved changes.
Showing and hiding sections #
Customize in the top-right opens a panel with one tile per section: Digest, KPIs, and Goals. Click a tile to show or hide that section. Digest and KPIs start hidden, Goals starts visible, so a view you have never customized shows just the goal list.
The choice is saved per view, and in the browser you made it in, so it does not follow you to another device or a different browser. Turning Digest on for one view leaves every other view as it was. Views that carry no Digest or KPIs section have no Customize button at all.
Pinning metrics as KPI cards #
The KPIs section shows chosen metrics as cards at the top of Organization and team views. Turn it on under Customize, then:
- Click + Metrics in the KPIs header. The picker lists the metrics among the goals the view currently shows, by metric name (search with Search metrics...). Click a metric to add its card; click it again to remove the card.
- Add new Metric at the top of the picker creates a metric and adds its card in one step (the label uses your organization's name for metrics).
- Drag a card to reorder the cards (on a touch screen, press and hold first); if the new order can't be saved, the cards move back and a message tells you. Click a card to open that metric. Hover a card and click its × to remove it.
- A metric's row menu in the goal list also offers Add to KPI dashboard / Remove from KPI dashboard.
The cards are part of the view, not a personal setting: on Organization and team views, adding, removing or reordering a card changes it for everyone who opens that view. Click the KPIs header to collapse the cards; collapsed, it shows how many there are.
Choosing the time period #
The first chip in the Goals header shows the period the view covers, such as 'Q4 2026'. Click it for a searchable list of your organization's time periods, grouped by type (months, quarters, halves, years and custom periods; only the types your organization has appear). You can pick several periods: the chip then reads, for example, '2 Time periods', and hovering it lists them. The details line under the view title shows the same periods.
- Deselect every period to drop the period filter: the view shows goals from all periods and the chip disappears until you click the filter toggle again.
- A Project with its own due date counts in the period that contains its due date.
- Organization, the built-in views and team views always open on the current period. A saved view keeps the periods it was saved with; if you never changed the period before saving it, it keeps following the current period instead.
Filtering by team, owner, status or tag #
The Goals header shows only the chips that have a value. Click Filter to reveal the rest: Team, User, Status, Goal type, Owner type, Tags (only when Tags is turned on under Settings → Goals → Advanced features), and the Show archived switch (see Archiving goals). When the chips no longer fit beside the title they shrink to icons (hover one for its name), and in a narrow window they all move into the Filter menu.
- Each chip is a searchable list where you can pick several values. A goal matches a chip if it matches any of the values picked there, and it has to match every chip that has a value.
- Team lists your organization (company-level goals), Individual (goals owned by a person), then your teams. User matches a goal if any of its owners is picked. Status offers Not Started, On Track, Behind, At Risk, Postponed and Completed.
- A chip with a value shows it, or a count such as '2 Statuses' when you pick several. To clear one value, open the chip and click it again; to clear everything you changed, use Reset all.
- When an admin has turned on Advanced Filters, these chips are replaced by a filter bar.
Filtering by goal type or owner type #
Goal type narrows a view to Objectives, Key results, Projects, or any combination, using your organization's own names for them. Owner type narrows it to company, team, or individual goals. Both are offered in the classic filter chips and in the Advanced Filters bar, save and share with the view like any other filter, and apply in every layout. As with every filter, the Nested, Alignment and Timeline layouts show a matching goal together with its sub-goals, and a goal whose parent is filtered out moves to the top level rather than disappearing. So filtering to Projects shows just Projects, while filtering to Objectives also shows the Key results and Projects under them; use the Flat layout to see only the matching goals. The Team filter's organization and Individual entries still work alongside Owner type; when both are set a goal has to match both, so a contradictory pair shows an empty list.
Unsaved changes, Reset all and Save #
Changing a filter never changes the view for anyone else. As soon as your filters differ from the view's saved ones, Reset all and Save appear in the Goals header.
- Your unsaved changes are kept as a draft for you, for that view, in this browser. They survive a reload or leaving the view and coming back, for up to 7 days. If your draft does not touch the time period, the view keeps following its current period.
- Reset all ("Reset filters to view defaults") discards the draft and returns to the view's saved filters.
- On a view you manage (your own custom view, or an org-wide view if you are an admin), Save stores the changes in the view and shows "View updated". On any other view, Save offers Public or Private to save your filters as a new view (see Custom view).
- Layout, Show archived and Timeline options are personal display settings, not filters, so they never create a draft. Grouping, where your organization has it, is part of the filters.
- If the browser cannot store the draft you get a "Draft not saved" warning, and the changes are lost when you navigate away.
Advanced Filters (org toggle) #
When an Org Admin turns on Advanced Filters under Settings → Goals → Advanced features, every goal view swaps the header filter chips for a filter bar directly under the Goals header. Click Filter to add a condition (Period, Team, Owner, Status, Tag, Goal type, or Owner type), and each condition reads as field / operator / values. The operator menu offers Is / Is any of and the exclusion forms Is not / Is none of, so you can build views like "Owner is none of these 4 people" or "Status is not Completed". Click a condition's values to change them, the × to remove it, and Clear on the right to remove every condition. Saving, drafts, and sharing behave exactly as with the classic chips; with the toggle off, views keep the classic chips and ignore any saved exclusion operators.
When a view is empty #
In any filter mode, when a view is empty but goals you can see would appear under a different filter, the list says No goals match the current filter and suggests up to three filter changes, each labeled with how many goals it would show. Changes that keep your time period come first, ranked by how many of your own or your teams' goals they reveal (e.g. All statuses). After those comes the nearest quarter that has goals, or failing that the nearest half, month or year. Click a suggestion to apply it, or Apply all to apply every suggestion at once. If no single change would help, you get one combined suggestion instead, such as a nearer period with your other filters cleared, or Clear all filters. The counts include archived goals when Show archived is on. Applying a suggestion is an unsaved change like any other.
When no filter change would show you anything: if you have changed the filters away from the view's saved ones, the list shows No goals match the filter with the active conditions spelled out (e.g. "Period is Q3 2026 · Status is not Behind") and a Create goal button. Otherwise it shows "Add goals to get started" ("Set goals for <team>" on a team view) with Start from scratch, plus Draft with AI on Organization and team views where your organization has it.
Display options #
Controls in the Goals header decide how the filtered goals are laid out (independently of which goals match). Hover any option to see what it does.
Layout sits on the right, next to Reset all and Save; its icon shows the layout you are in. Nested (the default) nests goals under their parent goals; expand a goal to see its sub-goals. Flat shows a flat list of exactly the goals matching your filters, without their sub-goals. Your organization may also have the Alignment and Timeline layouts, described below; if you do not see them, your organization has not turned them on.
Layout is a personal viewing preference, remembered for you per view on this browser: changing it does not modify the view, so it never turns on Reset all / Save and everyone else keeps their own choice.
To look at goals without opening them, hover the Nested or Flat list and press Space. A panel opens at the top right with the hovered goal's card, its progress over user or Operator-submitted check-ins and its latest submitted check-in (automatic updates and roll-ups are excluded), and it follows your pointer as you move down the list. Press Space again or Escape, move off the list, or click a goal to close it.
Presenting a view (Present Mode) #
Click the expand icon in the view header (Present Mode; in a narrow window it is Present in the View actions menu) to show the view fullscreen, for a meeting or a screen share. The sidebar and the header buttons are hidden, and the view's title and details line are shown large at the top. The sections you turned on under Customize stay as they are; Customize itself is not available while presenting.
To leave, click the × in the top-right (Exit Present Mode (ESC)) or press Esc. Present Mode uses your browser's fullscreen mode, so if the browser blocks fullscreen the page stays as it was.
Links that open a view on specific periods or a goal #
Some links Brev creates, such as the one that takes you to your new goals after onboarding, carry extra settings in the address. You can share or bookmark a view link that has them too:
?periods=followed by one or more time period IDs (comma-separated) opens the view on those periods for this visit;?periods=allshows every period. It does not change the saved view or create a draft. Reset all appears because the periods differ from the view's own; reloading without the parameter goes back to the view's periods, and picking a period yourself turns it into an ordinary unsaved change.?goal=followed by a goal's ID opens that goal's details panel on the right of the view. Close it with the panel's ×.
Steer the AI digest and summary, dismiss a bad version (view owners) #
When an Org Admin turns on Prompt Recipes under Settings → AI & agents → Capabilities, view owners (org admins/owners, and team admins/owners on a team view) can steer what the AI writes for a view. With the toggle off, the recipe link and button described below aren't shown, but digests and summaries keep generating and any recipe already saved for a view keeps applying to them. The toggle controls who can open the editor, not whether a saved recipe takes effect, so turn it off expecting the editing surface to go away rather than the steering. Dismissing a bad version is separate and stays available either way. On the Digest's Insights card, click the Adjust recipe link in the footer (beside Sources) to open the generation recipe dialog. Expand the Advanced section (collapsed by default) to reach the Tone, Audience, and Length quick-pick tabs for common adjustments (each includes a Default option that falls back to Brev's standard style), and/or write freeform standing directions like 'Lead with customer-facing outcomes' or 'Keep each section to 3 bullets'. Click Try prompt to see a live preview of what the recipe produces before you save (each preview runs a real generation and uses AI credits). On the digest, the preview pane has a Summary / Highlights / Blockers / Tactics selector so you can preview one section at a time. Happy with a preview? Click Save section (the digest) or Save as version (the summary) to publish that exact output as a new version right away, instead of waiting for the next scheduled refresh. The summary and the digest now keep separate recipes, so you can tune each independently. Open the digest recipe from the Insights card and the summary recipe from the AI Summary sheet. Saving takes effect from the next generation; already-written content is not rewritten.
- Dismiss a bad version: if a generation leaked something or got it wrong, owners can remove that specific version so it's no longer shown to anyone. Use the trash icon next to the generated timestamp on the Insights card, or in the AI Summary sheet's toolbar. It dismisses whichever version you're currently viewing (use the arrows to navigate to an older one first if needed). The previous version takes its place; if none exists, the surface shows its empty state until the next generation.
- Dismissal is per-version. It doesn't turn anything off. Future generations keep running on their normal schedule, so pair a dismissal with a recipe tweak if the same problem would recur.
Plain members, including whoever created the view, can't edit recipes or dismiss versions. See Roles & permissions for the role definitions.
