Cadences
The recurring meetings that keep your org aligned (1:1s, standups, business reviews), with goals attached and notes captured automatically.
Cadences are recurring meetings that Brev knows about. Once a meeting is registered as a cadence, Brev pulls in the right goals, drafts an agenda, joins the call to take notes, and pushes commitments back into your goals and actions.
What's on the page #
- Record (top-right): send Brev's notetaker to a meeting by pasting its link. See Recording a meeting by link.
- Meetings (top-right): opens a side panel listing every meeting on your calendar, cadence or not. See The Meetings panel.
- Cadences Health: a panel at the top, subtitled 'How all your Cadences are performing', holding five cards (Alignment, Decisions, Execution, Accountability, Efficiency) that score how your cadences are doing. Hover the (i) beside the heading for what the panel measures, or the one beside a card's name for what that single dimension means. Before Brev has scored anything the cards show a dash rather than disappearing, so you can see what will be measured. Use 'Metrics' to choose which cards appear; your choice is remembered in this browser.
- Cadence list: every cadence you're a member of. With the default sort, cadences that meet today are pulled into a 'Today' section above 'All cadences'. Each row's badge shows LIVE, 'Starting soon' or 'Upcoming' with the time, or just the time for a meeting earlier today.
- Search, sort and filters: above the list, 'Search cadences' narrows the list by name. The filter button reveals a sort menu (Upcoming, Frequency, Name, Type; pick the same option again to flip its direction), 'Frequency' and 'Type' filters where you can tick several values, and a 'Show archived' switch. A cadence with no upcoming meetings counts as archived: it stays hidden until you turn that switch on, and then carries an 'Archived' pill. Your sort, filters and 'Show archived' are remembered in this browser; the search box starts empty each time. The 'Today' section only appears with the Upcoming sort in its default direction.
- Sync status: the 'Syncing' indicator to the left of the search and filters shows that Brev is pulling fresh data from your connected calendar.
Syncing your calendar now #
Brev keeps your cadences in step with your calendar on its own. To pull changes in right away (a recurring meeting you just created, or a series whose schedule changed), click the round refresh button at the right end of the search and filter controls. Its tooltip reads 'Sync calendar events and update cadence frequencies'. The icon spins while the sync runs, then a message tells you how it went:
- Calendar synced: everything came through. New cadences and meetings appear in the list without a reload.
- Calendar synced with warnings: the sync ran, and the message says how many events could not be synced.
- Sync failed: nothing was synced. Try again in a moment.
With no calendar connected, the sync tells you to connect one first. While Brev is still syncing a newly connected calendar, or has found no recurring meetings yet, the page shows a 'Sync Now' button that does the same thing.
Before you connect a calendar #
With no calendar connected the page explains what it is waiting for and offers 'Connect Google Calendar' and 'Connect Outlook Calendar'. Either one takes you straight to that provider's sign-in, not to Settings, and brings you back to Cadences when you are done, so your recurring meetings appear on the page you started from. The Cadences Health panel sits above, showing dashes until Brev has meetings to score. Its (i) icons explain what each dimension measures while you wait, and the one beside the heading tells you what fills the dashes.
If your calendar connection stops working, the page says 'Calendar Disconnected' with a 'Reconnect Calendar' link; when you already have cadences, a banner with a 'Reconnect' link sits above the list instead. If Brev can't check your calendar connection at all, it says so and offers 'Try Again'.
What each cadence row shows #
- Avatars of the regular attendees. Hover for a hint, or click them to see everyone in the cadence, with its host first.
- Cadence title, with a status badge under it: LIVE while a meeting is running, 'Starting soon' just before one, 'Upcoming' and the date and time for your next meeting, or the plain time for a meeting today. Click the title to open the live or next meeting (or the most recent one, if none is coming up). To look without leaving the page, hover the list and press Space: a panel opens at the top right with the hovered cadence's meeting (date, time, attendee count) and its agenda topics, durations and short excerpts when an agenda exists, and it follows your pointer as you move down the list. The panel is a preview only; click the row to open the meeting. Press Space again or Escape, click, or move off the list to close it.
- Type chip: the cadence's type with its icon (Team Review, Stand Up, 1:1, Leadership Review, etc.). Click it to change the type, or pick 'None' to clear it; a cadence without one shows a faded 'Add type' chip with a plus. Changing the type is an org admin action (see Roles & permissions). When Brev finds a new recurring meeting on your calendar it may suggest a type from the meeting's title, schedule and attendee count: open the chip to see 'Suggested type' at the top of the menu, then pick the suggestion (for example 'Use 1:1') to accept it or 'Dismiss suggestion' to clear it. A suggestion is never applied on its own. Only org admins see suggestions, since only they can change a cadence's type.
- Recurrence and host: how often the cadence meets (Daily, Weekly, Bi-weekly, Monthly, Quarterly and so on) and who hosts it, in plain text. Hover either for the full schedule or the host's name.
- Engagement sparkline: a tiny trend chart of recent meeting health scores. Hover it, or tab to it, to see the cadence's health score broken down across five dimensions. A cadence Brev hasn't scored yet shows 'No scores' instead.
- On a narrow page (for example with the Operator panel open), the row keeps its icons and drops their labels: the type chip, the recurrence, the host's name, 'No scores' and the 'Upcoming' prefix on the time. Hover any of them for the full text. The sort, filter and 'Show archived' controls above the list shrink to their icons the same way.
- Toggle on the far right: enables or disables the AI meeting agent for this cadence (per-cadence override of the global join policy). Meetings whose host has locked the agent keep the host's choice; the toggle is disabled only when every upcoming meeting is locked. A cadence you turn off stays off, even when some of its meetings stay on, and meetings added to it later start with the agent off; hover the toggle to see how many upcoming meetings still have the agent on, and who kept them on. Hover or focus it to see who last turned the next meeting's agent on or off. See who controls the agent in a meeting.
How cadences get added #
You don't create cadences by hand. Once your calendar is connected, Brev turns the recurring meetings on it into cadences as it syncs, and every upcoming occurrence is tracked from then on. To pick up a series you just created without waiting, use the sync button above the list. A meeting that isn't on your calendar at all can still be recorded with Record.
A new cadence starts with no type. The type (Leadership Review, Department Review, 1:1, MBR, WBR, QBR, Team Review, Stand Up, All Hands, OKR Review, Retrospective, Cross Functional or Planning) affects how the recap is structured and whether the meeting is matched to goals. See Goal alignment for how untyped meetings are treated.
Changing or retiring a cadence #
- Name and schedule come from your calendar. Rename or reschedule the series there and the cadence follows on the next sync (see Renaming a meeting).
- Type and teams: set the type from the chip on the cadence row or on any of its meeting pages, and the teams from the 'Teams' chip on a meeting page. Changing either is an org admin action (see Roles & permissions); anyone else gets an error message.
- Meeting agent: the switch at the end of the row turns the agent on or off for every upcoming meeting of the cadence.
- Retiring: there is no delete button for a cadence. When a series ends on your calendar and has no upcoming meetings left, the cadence counts as archived and drops out of the list (turn on 'Show archived' to see it again). Its past meetings keep their notes, recaps and artifacts.
Recording a meeting by link #
Record sends Brev's notetaker to a meeting that Brev isn't already set to join, such as a call someone just sent you a link for. It works with Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams links.
- Open the dialogClick Record at the top-right of the Cadences page. The 'Record a Meeting' dialog opens.
- Paste the meeting linkPaste the full https link. Brev checks it as you type: an incomplete link, a non-https link, or a link from another meeting service shows a red message and Dispatch stays disabled. A valid link that matches nothing in Brev reads 'Dispatch your Meeting Agent to this meeting.'
- Optionally link it to a cadenceTick 'Link to cadence' and pick one from 'Select a cadence…' (only cadences with an upcoming meeting are listed). The dialog then reads 'Will record <cadence> · <time>.', and the recording lands on that cadence's live or next meeting. Dispatch stays disabled until you pick a cadence or untick the box.
- DispatchClick Dispatch. Brev confirms 'Meeting agent dispatched' and sends the notetaker to the link right away, so dispatch when the meeting is about to start or already running.
If the link you paste belongs to a meeting Brev already knows about, the dialog says 'This link belongs to an existing meeting.' and asks you to choose: record that meeting, or 'Create a new standalone recording with this link'. When a recurring link matches several upcoming meetings, pick which one to record from the list under the first option. If a notetaker is already recording the meeting, the dialog says so and Dispatch stays disabled unless you choose a new standalone recording. Dispatch is also disabled while your organization's AI is paused. Closing the dialog clears what you entered.
The Meetings panel #
Meetings at the top-right opens a panel beside the list with every meeting you're on, cadence meetings and one-off meetings alike, grouped by day. Today's group is marked 'Today' and the panel scrolls to it when it opens. Click Meetings again, or the close button in the panel, to put it away.
- Calendar Meeting Settings: the link at the top goes to Meeting agent settings, where you choose which meetings the agent joins automatically and who gets recaps.
- Date range: starts on This week. Switch to Today, Past week, Past 30 days, Next 30 days, or a Custom range you pick on a calendar.
- Meeting type: All meetings, or Non-recurring meetings to see only the one-offs.
- Meeting agent switch: each upcoming meeting has its own switch to turn the agent on or off for just that meeting. A meeting whose host has locked the agent shows the switch disabled, with the reason on hover. Past and live meetings have no switch.
- Open a meeting: click a card to go to that meeting's page.
With nothing in the chosen range, the panel says 'No meetings found'.
On your phone #
On a phone, or any narrow window, the Cadences page keeps to the essentials: the header's only button is Meetings, which opens the same Meetings panel, and the page shows your cadence list. Record, the Cadences Health panel, and the search, sort, filter, 'Show archived' and sync controls are hidden, so use a wider window for those.
