Notifications
Mentions, assigned actions, goal activity, meeting recaps and integration alerts routed to you, filterable by type and read state.
/inbox but the page title reads Notifications. The bell at the top of the sidebar opens a quick panel of the same notifications; its View all notifications link brings you here.Open this page when you want to triage what Brev has surfaced for you. Everything here is yours alone: each person sees only their own notifications for the organization they are signed in to. The page lists your 50 newest notifications, newest first.
Page tour #
- Mark all as read (top-right, next to the filters): marks every unread notification read in one click, including older ones beyond the 50 shown. It only appears while something is unread.
- All notifications dropdown: show one type only, for example Meeting Recap, Mention, Action Assigned, Check-in Received or Integration.
- All / Unread / Read buttons: filter by read state. Both filters work together, and they reset to All when you reload the page.
- Notification row: a checkbox, the avatar of the person who triggered it (hover it for their name, title and email) or an icon for the notification type, the title, a short excerpt and how long ago it arrived. Unread rows have a blue dot and a tinted background. Rows that link somewhere show a right arrow.
- Quick actions at the right of each row: a checkmark to mark it read (unread rows only) and an archive icon to remove it.
Click a row (or focus it and press Enter or Space) to open what it points to: the goal, check-in, comment, action, meeting or settings page. Opening a row marks it read. A row with nothing to open just marks itself read.
Reading, archiving and bulk triage #
- Mark as read keeps the row in All and Read but drops it from Unread, and lowers the unread count on the bell.
- Archive removes the row from every filter straight away, with no confirmation. There is no archived view and no undo, so archive only what you are done with.
- To clear several at once, tick their checkboxes (or Select all in the bar above the list, which selects every row the current filters show). The bar changes from the notification count to N selected and shows an Archive button. Bulk actions only archive; to mark everything read, use Mark all as read. Known issue: rows you ticked stay selected when you change the filter, even though they are hidden, and Archive includes them, so clear the selection before switching filters.
When there is nothing to show #
- No notifications at all: the page reads "No notifications" with "You're all caught up".
- Unread filter with nothing unread: "No unread notifications".
- A type filter with no matches: the hint changes to "Try changing your filters". Switch the dropdown back to All notifications to see everything again.
- The bell's panel has its own empty state: "All caught up" with "No notifications to show".
What shows up #
- @-mentions: when a teammate @mentions you anywhere you can write (a comment, check-in note, meeting note, agenda, or document), you get a high-priority card that links straight to it. For a comment mention, the card opens the goal scrolled to that check-in, expands its reply thread with the reply box open, and briefly highlights the comment you were mentioned in. A mention in a check-in note opens the goal at that check-in. Only a person typing your name notifies you: when Brev's AI names you (in a chat answer, a generated agenda, or any other AI-written text), your name still renders as a clickable chip, but no card, email, or Slack/Teams message is sent. A mention should mean a colleague deliberately pulled you in, not that a model happened to write your name. Mentioning yourself, or saving the same text again, sends nothing new; editing a check-in to add someone notifies only the person you added. Inserting a goal or project from the same menu is a link, not a mention: it notifies nobody. A mention in an artifact or meeting notes only reaches you if you can open it: otherwise the person who mentioned you is told you weren't notified. For an artifact on its own page, you get the notice once someone who can edit it shares it with you or makes it org-wide.
- New action assigned: a high-priority card when someone else creates an action for you or reassigns one to you. It opens the action on its goal, or in My actions when it has no goal. Assigning an action to yourself sends nothing.
- New check-in on a goal you own: when someone else checks in on your goal. It opens the goal at that check-in. Your own check-ins, and check-ins Brev writes for you or pulls in from an integration, do not create a card.
- Reaction: a low-priority card when someone reacts with an emoji to your check-in, or to your comment on one. It opens the goal at that check-in (and, for a comment, expands its thread and highlights the comment). One card per person per check-in or comment per day, however often they change their reaction. Reacting to your own sends nothing, and a check-in that names no author (written by Brev, rolled up from sub-goals, or an integration refresh with no note) notifies no one. Reactions stay in the app: no email, Slack or Teams message.
- Status changed on a goal you own: when someone else changes your goal's status, with the old and new status in the card. Known issue: a status changed from the goal page itself doesn't create this card yet.
- Meeting recap ready: one per processed meeting, sent to the attendees who have Brev accounts. It opens the meeting.
- New insights: when Brev finds new insights for a goal you own in a meeting. It opens the goal.
- Needs reconnection: a high-priority card when one of your connected integrations stops working (for example, its access was revoked). It opens Settings → Integrations so you can reconnect.
- Your goals are ready to review: when the Brev team has imported goals for you from your strategy document. See Reviewing imported goals.
The bell and its quick panel #
The bell sits at the top of the sidebar, next to your organization's logo, whenever the sidebar is expanded. A badge on it shows how many notifications are unread (9+ once there are more than nine).
- Click the bell to open the panel. Notifications are grouped under Today, Yesterday, This Week (the last seven days) and Earlier.
- Click a notification to open what it points to; the panel closes and the notification is marked read. One with nothing to open is marked read and the panel stays open.
- Mark all as read at the top of the panel clears the badge without closing it.
- View all notifications at the bottom opens this page. While you are on this page, the bell is highlighted and does nothing.
Other ways to reach your notifications #
- Collapsed sidebar: when the sidebar is shrunk to its column of icons, the bell is hidden and the unread badge moves onto your avatar at the bottom. Click the avatar and choose Notifications (it shows the count too).
- On a phone: the bar at the top of the screen has a larger bell with the same badge and panel.
- Command palette: press Cmd/Ctrl+K, type Inbox and pick the Inbox page entry.
Live updates #
- New notifications arrive on their own: the bell's badge and the list update within seconds, with no reload. There is no pop-up or toast; the badge is the signal.
- Read, archive and Mark all as read sync to your other open tabs and devices too, so a notification you cleared in one tab is cleared everywhere.
Reviewing imported goals #
When the Brev team imports goals for you from your strategy document, you get a "Your goals are ready to review" notification (the type dropdown lists it under your organization's name for goals, for example Goals Imported). Opening it takes you to the Organization goals view, where a summary shows how many goals, metrics and projects were drafted. The summary also opens on its own whenever you visit that view while the notification is still unread.
- Review my goals closes the summary and marks the notification read.
- Closing the summary any other way archives the notification, so it leaves your inbox.
Mentions outside the app #
Every @-mention card is also sent to you by email, and as a direct message in Slack or Microsoft Teams when your organization has connected one. Each channel has its own switch under Settings → Notifications: the Mentions switch under Email notifications controls the email, and the Mentions switch under Slack notifications controls the chat message in both Slack and Teams. The Slack switch can be changed only once your organization's Slack app is connected. Email and chat copies also need your organization to have credit left; without it only the in-app card arrives. Turning a channel off never affects the in-app card: it always arrives here.
Notifications vs. Actions #
Notifications are about things that happened you should know about. Actions is about things you should do. They overlap when an action is assigned to you or comes due: the card tells you, but the action itself lives in Actions. The rule of thumb stays: 'I should look at this' → Notifications; 'I should do this' → Actions.
Staying in sync #
Brev keeps a copy of your workspace in your browser so pages open fast, and keeps it up to date in the background. Changes your teammates make to goals, actions, teams, time periods and meetings appear in your open tabs within seconds, without a refresh. If two people change the same thing at the same moment, the later save wins.
- When Brev first loads, you see the Brev loading screen while your workspace fills in. If it has to retry, it shows "Reconnecting..." with the attempt number.
- If loading never finishes, you see "We couldn't finish loading Brev" with Try again and Reset browser data and sign in. Resetting is safe: your data lives on Brev's servers, and you just sign in again.
- Normally nothing is shown at the bottom of the sidebar. If background updates start failing, a spinning icon appears there (hover it: "Having trouble connecting"). If they keep failing, it turns into a red cloud icon meaning the connection is lost. Pages you have open keep working, changes you make are saved on this device and sync when the connection returns, and the icon disappears on its own once it does. Known issue: if your network itself drops, rather than Brev's servers, Brev may offer to reload instead of showing the icon, and new goals wait until you reconnect.
- If your session expires and Brev cannot sign you back in automatically, a banner at the top of the page says the page is no longer receiving updates. Click Sign in again.
