Summary
Actions are AI-generated (or manually created) tasks in Brev that tie directly to your goals and meetings — so every action item has context, an owner, and a clear connection to what it's meant to move forward.
What Are Actions?
Most teams track tasks in one tool and goals in another — and the two never connect. Action items from meetings live in Notion or someone's personal to-do list. Goals live in a separate tracker. Nobody can tell which tasks are actually moving the needle.
Brev's Actions are different. Every action item in Brev is linked to a goal. When you create an action (or when Brev creates one for you), it's tied to the objective or key result it's meant to advance. That means:
You can see all the actions driving any given goal
Goal owners can see what's in flight, what's blocked, what's done
Leadership can see whether the activity is aligned with priorities
Where Actions Come From
Actions in Brev are created in three ways:
1. AI-Generated (from meetings)
After a meeting, Brev extracts commitments from the transcript and suggests action items. You review and approve them. Each one is pre-linked to the relevant goal. See: Managing and Approving AI-Generated Actions.
2. AI-Generated (from goal analysis)
When Brev's AI detects that a goal is at risk or stalled, it may suggest actions to address the issue — based on what's worked for similar goals, what's blocking progress, and what commitments have been made. These appear as suggestions in the goal's detail view.
3. Manually Created
You or your team can create actions directly in Brev at any time, linked to any goal. No AI required.
Anatomy of an Action
Each action in Brev has:
Title — what needs to be done
Description — optional context
Assignee — who owns it
Due date — when it's expected to be done
Priority — High / Medium / Low
Linked goal — which goal it advances
Status — Not started / In progress / Done / Blocked
Source — where it came from (meeting, AI suggestion, manual)
Viewing Actions
My Actions — All actions assigned to you, sorted by due date and priority. This is your personal task view.
Goal Actions — View all actions tied to a specific goal from the Goal Detail View. Every goal has an Actions tab.
Team Actions — See all actions across your team, filterable by assignee, goal, status, and due date.
Access these via Actions in the left navigation.
Creating an Action Manually
1. Go to Actions → New Action (or use the + button from any goal's detail view).
2. Enter a title and optional description.
3. Assign to a team member.
4. Set a due date.
5. Link to a goal (required — every action should connect to a goal).
6. Set priority.
7. Click Create.
Pro tip: If you're creating an action during a meeting, do it from the goal's detail view. It auto-links and saves you a step.
Updating Action Status
Anyone can update the status of an action they're assigned to:
In the Actions view, click the status dropdown on any action
Or open the action and update the status field
Or update via Slack if Slack is connected (type
/brev updatein any channel)
Goal owners also get visibility when actions tied to their goals are completed — it's a signal that work is moving.
Actions and Goal Progress
Actions don't automatically update goal progress — that still comes from check-ins and KPI data. But completed actions are factored into Brev's AI analysis of a goal's health. A goal with lots of active, on-time actions looks healthier than one with no activity.
⚠️ Note: Actions are work tracking, not progress tracking. Completing all your actions doesn't mean a goal is done — you still need to measure the actual outcome.
