Introduction to OKRs

OKRs (Objectives and Key Results) are a simple operational management method to break down strategy into near-term objectives, define measures of success as key results, and align the organization around focused outcomes.

It’s a way to move quickly toward focused impact—and drive execution.

The OKR framework (how it fits together)

OKRs sit inside a broader structure that connects long-term direction to near-term execution:

  • Vision (3–5 years)
Why we matter in the future

  • Mission (1–3 years)
Why we exist and execute every day

  • Objectives (near term)
What we will focus on next

  • Key Results
How we know we’ve achieved our objectives (measurable outcomes)

  • Initiatives & Projects
The work we execute to drive key results

Quick definitions

  • Objective: A clear, outcome-focused goal (what you want to achieve)

  • Key Result: A measurable metric that proves you achieved the objective

  • Initiatives / Projects: The actions and execution plan that move the key results

Success check: You can read an OKR set and immediately understand what matters, how success is measured, and what work will drive results.
