Summary
The Goals Detail View is where a single goal comes to life — showing its full history, child goals, linked actions, AI insights, and update timeline. This article explains every section so you can get the most out of it.
Opening the Goals Detail View
Click on any goal name in the Goals view, KPI Dashboard, or anywhere a goal is referenced in Brev. The Detail View opens as either a full page or a side panel, depending on your layout preference.
What You'll See
The Detail View is organized into several sections:
Header
Goal title and type (Objective, Metric, Milestone, Project)
Owner — Click to reassign
Time period — The active quarter or date range
Status badge — On track, At risk, Off track, Completed
Progress ring or bar — Visual progress toward target
Last updated — Timestamp of the most recent check-in
Progress Section (Metrics)
For Metric-type goals:
Current value — The live number
Start value — Your baseline
Target value — The finish line
Progress chart — A sparkline showing value over time
Data source indicator — Connected integration or "Manual"
For Milestone-type goals:
Completion toggle — Mark as done/not done
Due date
Child Goals
If this goal has children (Key Results, Projects, or sub-goals), they appear here with their status and progress. Click any child to open its own Detail View.
Actions
Linked Actions (tasks) that support this goal. Shows title, owner, due date, and completion state. Click + Add Action to create a new one inline.
Check-In History
A reverse-chronological log of every update made to this goal:
Who updated it
What value was entered
Any commentary added
Status at the time
This is your paper trail. It makes end-of-quarter reviews and retrospectives much more honest.
Comments & Mentions
A threaded discussion directly on the goal. Use @mentions to pull in team members without leaving Brev. Comments are visible to anyone with access to the goal.
AI Insights Panel
Brev's AI surfaces relevant insights based on the goal's data:
Trend analysis ("This metric has declined 3 weeks in a row")
Risk signals ("Target appears unlikely at current pace")
Suggested actions ("Similar goals saw success when X was done")
See [Goals AI Insights](goals-ai-insights.md) for details.
Editing from the Detail View
You can edit any goal field directly from the Detail View without going back to an edit form:
1. Click the pencil icon next to any field, or click the field itself in some cases.
2. Make your change.
3. Click Save or press Enter.
Changes are saved immediately and appear in the check-in history with a "field edited" log entry.
Updating Progress
To record a manual check-in:
1. Click Update or Add check-in in the Progress section.
2. Enter the current value (for Metrics) or update the status (for Projects/Milestones).
3. Add a brief commentary — what happened, what's next, any blockers.
4. Click Save.
The check-in appears in the history timeline immediately.
Sharing a Goal
To share a link to a specific goal:
1. Click the share icon or use the ⋮ menu in the header.
2. Copy the direct link.
3. Paste it in Slack, a doc, or wherever your team collaborates.
The link takes recipients directly to the Detail View. If they don't have Brev access, they'll be prompted to sign in.
Archiving or Deleting a Goal
From the ⋮ menu in the header:
Archive — Removes the goal from active views but preserves history. Use for goals that ended or became irrelevant mid-quarter.
Delete — Permanent removal. Only available to the owner or an admin.
⚠️ Note: Deleting a parent goal does not automatically delete child goals. Children become orphan goals and will appear without a parent in the Goals view. Reassign or archive them manually.
