Connecting Slack

Summary

Connect Slack to Brev to receive goal updates, meeting summaries, check-in reminders, and Team Digests where your team already communicates — and to update goals directly from Slack without switching apps.

Why Connect Slack?

Your team lives in Slack. If Brev's reminders and updates live somewhere else, people miss them. Connecting Slack means:

Check-in reminders land in Slack DMs — people actually see them
Team Digests post to your designated channels — no email required
Meeting summaries post immediately after calls
Goal status alerts fire when something moves off track
Team members can update goals from Slack — without ever opening Brev

This is one of the highest-leverage setups in Brev. Do it in the first week.

Connecting Slack (Admin Setup)

1. Go to Settings → Integrations.

2. Find Slack and click Connect.

3. You'll be redirected to Slack's OAuth flow.

4. Choose your Slack workspace from the dropdown.

5. Review the permissions Brev requests:

Send messages to channels and DMs (for reminders and digests)
Read channel list (to let you choose which channel receives digests)

1. Click Allow.

2. You'll be redirected back to Brev. Slack will show as Connected.

⚠️ Note: You need to be a Slack workspace admin (or have permission to install apps) to complete this step. If you're not, ask your IT or Slack admin to authorize the Brev app.

Configuring Slack Notifications

After connecting, decide what gets posted where:

1. Check-in reminders

When: Brev sends a DM to each goal owner when their check-in is due.

To configure: Settings → Check-Ins → Reminder Channel → Slack DM

Pro tip: Slack DMs for check-in reminders have significantly higher response rates than email. Use them.

2. Team Digests

Set a channel for each Team Digest to post to (e.g., #leadership-weekly, #ops-team).

To configure: Team Digests → [your digest] → Delivery → Slack → Choose Channel

3. Meeting summaries

Post meeting summaries to a channel automatically after each meeting ends.

To configure: Settings → Meeting Intelligence → Post-Meeting Delivery → Slack Channel

4. Goal status alerts

Get notified in a channel when a goal changes to "at risk" or "behind."

To configure: Settings → Notifications → Goal Status Changes → Slack Channel

Updating Goals From Slack

Once connected, team members can update their goals without opening Brev:

1. Brev sends a DM with the goals that are due for a check-in

2. Reply with your update — progress, status, and any blockers

3. Brev saves the update and applies it to the goal

Pro tip: Tell your team about this during rollout. "You can update your goals right from Slack" removes the biggest adoption barrier — having to log in to another tool.

Managing the Slack Integration

To disconnect or reconfigure:

1. Go to Settings → Integrations → Slack.

2. Click Manage to change channel assignments.

3. Click Disconnect to remove the integration.

⚠️ Note: Disconnecting Slack will stop all Slack notifications, DM reminders, and digest postings. It won't delete any data in Brev.

What You'll See After Connecting

Once Slack is connected:

Check-in reminders will start going to goal owners via Slack DM on your configured schedule
Team Digests will post to your configured channel on the next scheduled send
Meeting summaries will appear in your designated channel after each meeting

Troubleshooting

Brev messages aren't appearing in the channel Verify the Brev bot has been added to the channel. In Slack, go to the channel → Members → Add apps → search for Brev.

Team members aren't receiving DM reminders Each member needs to be in the same Slack workspace that was connected. If they're on a different workspace, they won't receive DMs.

Permission denied during OAuth You likely need Slack workspace admin permissions. Ask your IT team to install the Brev app in your workspace.
