Setting Up Your Account

Summary

Get your Brev account configured in under 20 minutes — set your organization profile, OKR cycles, and notification preferences so everything is ready when your team joins.

Before You Start

You'll need:

  • A work email address (Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 recommended — SSO works out of the box)

  • Your company's OKR cycle dates (typically quarterly — know your Q start/end dates)

  • About 15–20 minutes

Step 1: Create Your Account

1. Go to app.brev.io and click Get Started.

2. Sign up with your work Google or Microsoft account (recommended), or with email and password.

3. You'll be asked to name your organization — use your company name.

4. Select your company size range.

5. Click Continue.

Pro tip: Sign up with Google or Microsoft SSO. It makes inviting your team faster (no password management) and enables calendar and email integrations later.

Step 2: Configure Your Organization Profile

1. Go to Settings → Organization.

2. Fill in:

  • Organization name — how it appears throughout Brev

  • Logo — upload your company logo (PNG or SVG, square format recommended)

  • Timezone — your organization's primary timezone (used for check-in reminders and digests)

  • Fiscal year start — which month your fiscal year begins

1. Click Save.

Step 3: Set Up Your OKR Cycles

This is important — Brev uses cycle dates to scope goals, schedule check-ins, and time cadence meetings correctly.

1. Go to Settings → Goal Settings → Cycles.

2. You'll see a default cycle already created. Edit it or create new ones.

3. For each cycle, set:

  • Cycle name (e.g., "Q2 2026")

  • Start date

  • End date

1. Create cycles for at least the current quarter and next quarter.

2. Set the current quarter as Active.

⚠️ Note: Goal cycle dates affect when check-in reminders fire and when you're prompted to close and score OKRs. Get these right before you create goals.

Step 4: Set Notification Preferences

1. Go to Settings → Notifications.

2. Configure how you want to be notified:

  • In-app — notifications in the Brev interface

  • Email — daily or immediate

  • Slack — once you've connected Slack (see: Connecting Slack)

1. Choose which events trigger notifications:

  • Goal status changes (recommended)

  • New action items assigned to you (recommended)

  • Check-in reminders (recommended)

  • Meeting summaries delivered (recommended)

  • Digest delivery confirmation (optional)

Step 5: Set Up SSO (Optional, Recommended for Teams)

If your organization uses Google Workspace or Microsoft 365, you can enforce SSO login for all users:

1. Go to Settings → Security → Single Sign-On.

2. Select your provider (Google or Microsoft).

3. Follow the configuration steps.

4. Test with your own account before enforcing it company-wide.

Pro tip: SSO is especially valuable for larger teams — it means no separate password management and easier offboarding (deactivating someone's Google/Microsoft account automatically removes their Brev access).

What You'll See When Setup Is Complete

Your Brev dashboard will show:

  • An empty Goals view (ready for your first goals)

  • An onboarding checklist in the top right with remaining setup steps

  • A prompt to invite your first team members
