# Pulse

One feed of what everyone in your organization is doing in Brev: check-ins, comments, artifact comments, new goals and new members, newest first, as cards with each conversation kept together, search, an Involving me view, filters for activity type, teams and people, and comments and reactions right in the feed.

**Pulse** shows your teammates' recent work in one place, so you can see who is checking in, what they are discussing and which goals are new, without opening each person's [profile](https://help.brev.io/user-profile/) one at a time.

## How you get here

- Click **Pulse** in the main sidebar, just under Home.
- Or open the command palette and search for **Pulse**.

## What's in the feed

Each card names who did what and when, newest first, under a heading for the day (Today, Yesterday, then the date), and the kind of thing they acted on with its icon (a goal, metric or project, under your organization's names for them, or an artifact). The title of that goal or artifact is on the line below. When the goal sits under a parent goal you can see, a line such as "↳ in Grow revenue" names the parent under the title; click it to open the parent in the side panel. Click a person's name or avatar to open their profile. On every card about a goal or an artifact, click anywhere on the card that isn't a button or link (or the title, or the kind of thing named in the headline) to open it in a side panel on the right without leaving Pulse: a goal opens its quick view, and an artifact opens read-only, fitted to the panel, with Open above it to see the full artifact in a new tab. The panel shows one thing at a time, so opening a goal replaces an open artifact and the other way round. The feed narrows beside the panel, as it does on a goals view, so no card is hidden behind it; close the panel and the feed takes the full width again. On a phone the panel opens full screen instead. To open an artifact in a new tab straight away, Cmd-click (Ctrl-click on Windows) its title. Selecting text on a card doesn't open it. Point at a title to preview it.

- Check-ins people wrote themselves, with their notes. A check-in whose progress changed since the goal's previous check-in shows the goal page's progress bar, with the change striped on it, then the percent, the change as a chip such as ↑ 5%, and the status. One whose progress did not change shows the progress as a pill such as 50%, the status as a coloured pill such as On track, and the change chip. A check-in with a status but no progress shows the status alone. Check-ins written automatically, such as integration refreshes and roll-ups from child goals, are left out, though a change is still measured from them, as on the goal's page.
- Comments on goals and check-ins. A comment on a check-in says whose check-in it was.
- Goals people created. Several goals of one kind that one person created within an hour share a card listing the first three, with Show more for the rest.
- New members, when someone accepts an invitation to your organization: a row such as "Benn Graham joined Acme", at the time they accepted. These cards appear only under All.

A check-in and everything said about it share one card: comments on it join the check-in's card instead of getting cards of their own, and the card moves up to the newest of them. A new reaction doesn't move a card. A comment thread on an artifact works the same way. The card's top line tells the newest thing that happened, such as "Lin He left 3 comments on an Artifact", and the check-in or the thread's first comment is below it, even when it is older than the activity shown, with the newest comment under that. When someone else wrote the check-in or first comment, their name sits above it, such as "Vic Hu checked in".

Pulse only ever shows what you could already open yourself. A check-in or comment on a private goal appears only if the goal is shared with you or one of your teams, and an artifact comment only if you can open the artifact. Activity by people who have been deactivated is left out; reaction chips count everyone who reacted, as on the goal page.

Brev staff helping your workspace appear like anyone else, with a [Brev Support badge](https://help.brev.io/settings-members/#table) beside their name on cards and comments.

A new member gets a card only when they joined by accepting an invitation. People added another way (signing in through SSO, directory sync, or added by an admin without an invitation), guests, and anyone who joined before new-member cards were added get none. Guests of your organization see no new-member cards at all.

The newest activity loads first, and older activity loads as you reach the bottom. If a page of older activity fails to load, the feed says so and stops there until you click Try again. The feed updates on its own within a few seconds: new check-ins and comments appear at the top, a card with a new comment moves up with it, and reactions update on the cards already showing.

## Who's online

The top right of the page shows who in your organization has Brev open right now: their avatars and a count such as **3 online**. Click it to see everyone in the list, and click a name to open their profile.

- Someone counts as online while they have Brev open in a browser tab, even a tab in the background. It doesn't say whether they are at their desk.
- You are always in the list yourself.
- It refreshes about every 30 seconds while the page is in front of you, so someone who closes Brev drops off within about 30 seconds, and someone whose computer goes offline within about 3 minutes.
- It always covers your whole organization: the Team filter only changes the feed.
- Guests of your organization see only themselves.
- Brev staff helping your workspace are listed with a Brev Support badge.

The same list appears in the details line under the title of your goal [views](https://help.brev.io/views-default/#page-anatomy), after the member count.

## Search

Type in the search field above the feed to see only activity whose person, goal or artifact title, or text (check-in notes or a comment) contains what you typed. Capitals don't matter. The feed updates when you pause typing, and the search is kept in the page address. Search only narrows what you could already see.

## Involving me

Switch **Latest activity** to **Involving me** to see only activity that involves you:

- Check-ins, comments and new goals on goals you own.
- Check-ins and comments that @-mention you.
- New comments in threads you're in: a check-in you wrote, commented on or reacted to, or an artifact comment thread you wrote in or reacted to.

Your own activity never shows in Involving me. When nothing involves you, Pulse says so.

## Filter by activity

Use the **All activity** menu above the feed to show everything, or only **Check-ins**, **Comments**, new **Goals** (your organization's name for goals, if it uses another) or **Artifacts** (comment threads on artifacts). The type you pick is kept in the page address.

## Filter by team

Use the **Team** filter to see only activity by the members and owners of the teams you pick and their sub-teams. You can pick up to 50 teams; someone on several of them shows up once, and a link naming more than 50 shows the first 50. Clear every team to see the whole organization again. The teams you pick are kept in the page address, so you can bookmark or share a filtered feed.

## Filter by people

Use **All people** to see only activity by the people you pick, up to 50 at a time. With a team filter too, you see only the people you picked who are on those teams. The people you pick are kept in the page address.

## Comment and react

On a check-in or artifact thread card, a row at the end of the thread, under its newest comment, holds the reactions to the check-in (or the thread's first comment) and a comment link, as on the goal's page. Click the link, which reads the number of comments when the check-in has some (such as 2 comments) and **Reply** otherwise, to open the thread with the reply box ready to type in; the box takes the row's place at the end of the card until you close the thread. The latest four comments show, with a button above them for any earlier ones. Send your reply, or click Cancel to drop it and close the thread. It is the same thread as on the goal's page or in the artifact, so your comment shows up there too, and @-mentioning someone notifies them the same way.

The emoji chips in that row are the reactions to the check-in, or to the thread's first comment on an artifact. Click a chip to add or remove your own (yours shows pressed), click the smiley icon after the chips to pick another emoji, and point at a chip to see who reacted. Above the row, the newest comment shows with its author, its time and its own chips: hover it and click its smiley icon to react to just that comment, right on the card. Inside an open thread, each comment reacts the same way. It is the same reaction you'd see on the goal's page or in the artifact.

The **...** menu on a thread card is another way to open the goal in a side panel, or the artifact in a new tab, and **Copy link to thread** copies a link that opens the check-in on the goal's page or the thread in the artifact. Editing a comment stays where the comment lives.

To delete a comment you wrote, hover it in the open thread, click its **...**, choose **Delete comment** and confirm. When the card shows your comment as its first one, the card's ... menu has Delete comment instead. Only the person who wrote a comment can delete it, and it goes from the goal's page or the artifact too. It can't be undone. Notifications about it go too: anyone you @-mentioned loses that mention from their Inbox.

## Mute a thread

Choose **Mute this thread** from a thread card's **...** menu when you don't want to follow it. The card shrinks to one row saying it is muted, and **Undo** on the confirmation brings it back. Muting is just for you:

- The thread's new comments no longer show in your Pulse.
- For a check-in thread, reactions to your check-in or your comments in it no longer reach your Inbox. Reactions in an artifact thread never send Inbox notices, so muting one changes only your Pulse.
- If someone @-mentions you in the thread, you are still notified.
- To follow it again, click **Unmute** on the muted row.

## When Pulse is empty

In an organization with no activity yet, Pulse says so and offers **Draft goals with Brev**, which asks the Operator to turn a document into goals, and **Invite team members**. When your search or filters hide everything, Pulse says nothing matches and offers **Clear filters**, which clears the search, the view and every filter at once.
